Because I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to get a prescription filled only to find out it’s not covered by my insurance, or worse yet to later learn there was a much cheaper generic or over-the-counter version my doctor never told me about. At first glance I thought this was more marketing snake oil, but at the end of the article it points to three examples that bring to light another gift of healthcare social media, supporting patients who have conditions with social stigmas.

Patients with psoriasis suffer social stigma too and traditionally try hard to hide that they have the condition. On the contrary, when they use social media they become open about it, share their experiences and connect with others by taking part in conversation. They are no longer isolated, which in itself is a move away from them feeling stigmatized.
