10 Benefits of Blogging

If you were to have uttered the word ‘blog’ or ‘blogging’ 25 years ago no one would have know what you were talking about. Blogs didn’t exist. Sure, there were things similar to blogs like newspaper articles or personal journals, but they were either not accessible by everyone (ie. not everyone could write for their local paper) or no one else could read them. But if you fast forward to today, there are over 150 million blogs on the internet from every category you can possibly think of.

And yet many people still do not understand what makes blogging beneficial. Nick Scheidies wrote an article about some of the benefits of blogging where he said that having a blog is the single most important thing a business, cause, or person can do to advance online, and I would tend to agree with him. So here is a list of 10 Benefits of Blogging:

  1. Gaining Clients – When a website remains static then there is a good chance that traffic will not naturally flow to it, but when there is a consistent stream of content being updated then your website is much more likely to be found by potential clients.
When you utilize blogs to create valuable content you will gain your readers’ trust. Gaining their trust will in turn gain their favor which will make them much more likely to sign on as a client.

  2. Becoming a better Writer – Blogging will force you to write content on a regular basis. This will allow you the opportunity to improve your writing skills. Versus only writing when it is necessary, which can be inconsistent and infrequent.

  3. Get Immediate Feedback – Blogs allow for readers to provide their feedback immediately by posting a comment on the blog. These comments can be questions, concerns, or expressions of positive thought about the blog.

  4. Establish Yourself as an Expert in Your Field – When you are writing on a topic that is specific to your field of expertise then you have the chance to show why you are an expert. This can allow you to gain a reputation of being an expert on that particular topic.

  5. Gain Influence – When you have established yourself as an expert, you then have much more influence within your field. Your words are given the respect and consideration they deserve and people will look to you for insight.

  6. Build Networks – You don’t have to look at the amount of active blogs as a form of competition. With so many blogs that are currently active it can provide a great opportunity to network with other influencers to gain new perspectives and help grow your level of influence.

  7. Improve your SEO – Search engines really like websites that update content on a regular basis and blogging is a great chance to provide your website with meaningful content that will allow you to rank higher on search engines.

  8. Staying on Top of What is Happening in Your Field – Once you have adopted the blogger’s mentality you will naturally learn to stay connected with what is going on within your field. Most bloggers read other blogs and you can learn a lot from what other people have to say.

  9. Take Control of Your Online Identity – Since your blog can be updated easier than just about any other part of your website, it is important to understand that your blog can be the primary means of controlling your internet identity. You can shape the perception other people have of you or your company by staying consistent and valuable with you blog articles.

  10. Help and Inform Others – Last, but not least, your blog can not only benefit you, but it can be for the benefit of others as well. Your updates can inform your readers of current events, advances in the field, or it can be used to inform your audience about you or your company.
